Class 7 Written Learners

The learners (class 7) permits you to operate a moped, a Class 5 motor vehicle as a learner as well as a motorcycle as a learner, if you are at least 16 years of age. You must be at least 14 years old to qualify for a Class 7 license. No appointment is required. The test will consist of 30 multiple choice questions, you must answer 25 questions correctly to pass the exam. The questions are based on the Basic Operators Handbook There are also practice class 7 knowledge tests you can try before arriving.
Practice Tests

The learner’s exam is offered in 10 different languages: Arabic, Chinese (Traditional), Farsi, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese in addition to English. Please note: passed knowledge tests only show you have passed the exam and are not valid licenses. An additional Operators License service must be completed. Permits are valid for 1 year.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED .....
In order to write the basic drivers knowledge test (class 7) you must be 14 years of age or older and bring one of the following for identification:
- Canadian Passport, Canadian birth certificate, OR valid Alberta Identification card.
- Immigration document such as work permit, record of landing, proof of permanent residence or Citizenship card.

If you are UNDER the age of 18 you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (with custodianship letter) who can provide valid government issued I.D.

If you are OVER the age of 18 you are also required to bring:
- Proof of current Alberta residence such as: utility bill, physical bank statement, lease agreement, employment letter, post-secondary proof of enrolment.
- One additional proof of identification
Additionally, after passing your exam an eye exam will be provided so please ensure you bring proper eyewear if required.
